After passionate teaching sessions at Summer School, they tried their hand at traditional Japanese drumming and tea ceremony, greeted the monkeys at Takasakiyama, and even enjoyed a relaxing dip in a hot spring! ♨️

I have been a matcha fan for a while so to experience a matcha tea ceremony in Japan was very meaningful. We had the opportunity to learn about Japanese green tea preparation, experimenting with different kinds of tea and water temperatures. Then, we were guided through the matcha ceremony- learning how to properly navigate the tearoom, displaying beautiful architecture and calligraphy. We learned proper sitting and appreciation gestures. The ceremony culminated in a delicious snack followed by delicious matcha prepared directly in front of us. To top it off, we were treated with matcha ice cream! This was all on the second floor of a tea shop, where I of course had to purchase matcha powder to use when I return home! - Gabriel

The Taiko Drums workshop was so much fun! I loved being able to learn the proper techniques for playing them and getting the chance to practice a fun combination. The workshop also gave me a new appreciation for the art form itself. It involves more than just hitting the drum with sticks. It is using the whole body from your feet to your vocal cords to play the instruments to their full potential. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have learned the cultural art form! – Daylan
