





In the Computer Science workshop, students first learn the fundamentals of coding. Through numerous interactive activities, such as students building a tower of cards as a team with one student performing an action, or students providing instructions to code a “”robot instructor”” to walk to a different location, or students acting as a block of code and figuring out their correct location, the students all learned how to critically think about a problem, along with developing solutions. Furthermore, students first learned basic code terminology through exploring Scratch. Then, we built upon their knowledge by teaching them Python and HTML. For their final projects, students developed websites about themselves and topics they were interested in, used Python to add filters to images or reverse and speed up audio files, and created advanced games in Scratch. Students left the Computer Science workshop not only with creative projects, but with the ability to solve problems in computer science and help their peers fix errors in their code.
